Solve the VW Air Conditioner not cold enough- VAS5054A 

Car Information: 2009 VW lavida 1.6 car with 110KM miles on it, CLS engine and 5-speed manual transmission

Car Trouble: Check engine light on and air conditioner (I call AC in the following parts) not cold enough.

Check and Analysis: firstly have a basic check about the AC, at that time the temperature is 69.8F (21°c), but feel the cooling speed is very slow, the cold air from the outlet is not cold enough.

3 Trouble Codes Found: Connect VAS 5054a VW Audi diagnostic tool to diagnose Engine control unit J220, and read out 3 trouble codes: 12408 P3078 002 -Throttle Control Airflow at Idle too Low, static state; 01152 P0480004- Cooling Fan Relay 1 Control Circuit, intermittent and 06470 P1946 008 Control Module 1 for Coolant Fan voltage has error / open circuit, static state.

Troubleshoot the Error: after carefully check, I find the cooling fan can’t turn after open the AC, it is relevant to the AC not cooling enough, in another word, as long as the fan trouble is exclude, the cooling trouble can be solved.

When I use hand to turn fan, I feel not too much resistance, but find the fan blade quantity is not enough, then check the large capacity fuse SA6（40 A）at the top of the battery and find it is melt, connect the 12V light the two ends of the broken fuse, the light is on, it means the circuit has ground point, take down the NO.4 connector of the cooling fan, the light not on, it means the short circuit point not in the circuit, but inside the fan control unit J293 shown as following picture.

Trouble Solved: Replace the cooling fan control unit and SA6 fuse, delete trouble code, check engine light off.

When using BMW ICOM HDD, have you ever encounter such problem “system shutting down” (see the following picture)

Analyse: Usually, it is normal that hdd automatically restarts one to two times, it is ok, do not worry please. After it restart automatically, you can enter the password.

Password 2: just leave it blank
